Sirius Rising and Starwood |
July, 2005 |
This year's Sirius Rising and Starwood were sunny and hot - what a difference from the recent past! We
sweltered in our tents when there wasn't a breeze, and people wore as little as possible (there were more naked
people this year than I've ever seen). We all hung around in kilts and sarongs for the most part.
This year we took four of those garage tents and hooked them up all together under a single tarp. The tarp was
so big that we managed to cover a small pop-up tent as well which became our lanai where the smokers were
exiled. Two of the garage tents made up the living room and kitchen, and the other two tents were divided
into four bedrooms and a chapel! While we didn't get much rain this year, it worked well when it did rain!
So we became Druid Central in Druid Heights!
Gannd, Kirk and Nora drove out to Brushwood from Tucson, and Jesse and Dennis flew out.
There were great classes and wonderful parties, moving rituals and some very spiritual times.
There was a massive thunderstorm the afternoon of the Sirius Rising bonfire - and three people were hit by lightning.
Luckily, no one was seriously hurt. One of the fellows hit had it go from a tent pole through his hand and out of his foot.
He was quite thrilled about it. He says he may get a tattoo of a lightning bolt on his palm! We called him Lightning Boy. The other
three people with him in the tent, our own Jesse, Michael's friend Alex and Michael's fiance, let go of the tent earlier at Alex's
prodding.
Michael
wanted to save the tent!
A
short time after the incident, Michael tried to buy some food, but couldn't figure out
how money
worked.
It took a day or so
for him to completely recover.
As usual, the band Kiva stayed near us and partied with us for Sirius Rising (though they didn't stay long this year).
Nancy even brought more pie!
Later in the week Starwood had a Masked Ball, and lots of people dressed up. And ADF had their ritual at 5pm
this year instead of midnight. Yay!
