Ostara 2007 |
Germanic Celebration of Ostara and Nerthus |
| Back to Main Page | Back to Photos Page |
This was our first High Day outside of Summerlands, and the first public High Day not performed in a Celtic pantheon.
This year, Ostara used the Germanic pantheon, as a special celebration of the Germanic Dawn Goddess, Ostara
(similar to the Anglo-Saxon Eostre) and to the Germanic Earth Mother, Nerthus. To this end, a special Nerthus
cart was built by our Ben for the ritual, and a procesion of a draped, Nerthus statue was made before the people, just
as in ancient times. We know that this happened from the testimory of the Roman historian, Tacitus.
Dennis Ford was the Orator, Monica Lake was the Sacrificer, Nora Ford was the Seer, Arlene Davis was the Bard,
and Gannd was the Warrior. Cassie Sparrold and Kirk Thomas pulled the Nerthus cart.
A special thanks goes to Leahlani Thornhill for opening up her home for our public ritual to take place. We had 31
folks in attendence this year.
