Renewal of Lleu and the Sun! |
Continuing in our tradition of creating small playlets for the Bardic Lore section of the rite, we performed the story of Lleu Llaw Gyffes, and of how he was betrayed by his wife, Blodeuwedd, mortally wounded by her lover, Gronw, and saved and restored by his uncle, Gwydion. The near-death and rebirth of Lleu, the Solar Eagle, reflects this time of year, the Winter Solstice, when the Sun reaches its nadir, only to begin the long journey back to the north with the return of light and warmth.
Gannd was the Orator, assisted by Nora as the Sacrificer. Julian was the Seer, Arlene the Bard, Mark the Warrior and Kirk narrated the story. The Gods in the playlet were Robert as Lleu Llaw Gyffes, Arlene as Blodeuwedd, Mark as Gronw and Kirk as Gwydion. Gannd carried the spear in flight from Gronw to strike Lleu.
