MINUTES
Meeting at Maxim's Restaurant, Tucson, AZ
7 August 2002

1. Present were Gannd, Don, Kirk, Steve, Michele and guests Bridget, Brenda and Jonathan.

2. Minutes.
        a. The Minutes of the meeting at Don and Arlene's house of June 19 were approved as corrected: On            #3.b.5)., sentence should read, "Damien Thorn (on condition that he wear no visible inverted pentacle            symbol)."
        b. The Minutes of the meeting at Gannd's house on July 17 were approved as corrected (make all spellings             of Lughnasadh the same).

3. Lughnasadh.
        a. Our Lughnasadh ritual could easily be described as "sweet" with the three handfasting renewals which             took place there.
        b. 21 people attended the ritual, including 2 children.
        c. The corn dolly representing Eriu, made by Barb Foster, was terrific and is still tied to the spear. We shall             save it for next Lughnasadh.
        d. The Omen - Seer Gannd used the Ogham cards. The three that came up were Ur (Heather), Ohn (Furze)             and Mor (the Sea). The Grove has gotten together to heal ourselves and the land. Now we're at the             stage of coming together and collecting new friends. Ahead of us is a vastness of hidden knowledge and             resources.

4. Grove Quarterly Report.
        a. Quorums were discussed. It was noted that as the Grove continued to grow with people outside Tucson,             quorums could become difficult to come by for some meetings.
        b. For Minute approvals, we could change the By-laws to allow the next meeting of three persons or more             to approve the Minutes of the last meeting. Kirk will send out a By-law referendum after consulting with             Gannd on the wording.

5. Contacting Past ADF Members in the Tucson Area.
        a. Even though the ADF database is here in Tucson, it is available only to Mother Grove members.
        b. Gannd will write to Epona (Pacific Regional Druid) and ask her to contact the old ADF members on our             behalf.

6. Fall Fest.
        a. Our Grove is in charge of the north altar of the group ritual. While the ritual will be basic Wiccan, the             altars are being set up by Asatru, OTO, Druid and Wicca.
        b. When it comes to our turn to "call the quarter", we shall Open the Gates instead. When it comes time to             "dismiss the quarter", we shall Close the Gates.

7. Pursewarden's Report.
        a. The Pursewarden sent a message that as of today, we have $87.71 in our treasury.
        b. Silver given to the well can no longer be used for Grove expenses. It must be disposed of in a lake or             river or be buried in the ground as it is the property of the Gods.
        c. Donations to the Grove may be taken before or after the rituals but not in the Circle. Announcements for             donations will be made before our rituals as part of the Druid's briefing, and after the ritual during the pot             luck. We will make a Donation Box for this purpose.
        d. A donation request will be put in our ritual booklets, and it shall be made clear that all funds collected will             be for ritual consumables, banners and regalia only.

8. Advertising.
        a. We were given a free half-page ad in "Equilibrium" and we received 4 contacts from it.
        b. Shall we do advertising?

                  a) Tucson Weekly
                  b) Daily Star and Tucson Citizen religion sections
                  c) Equilibrium
            2) We will try one paper at a time and see how it goes. We must not mention the potlucks or we might                 get people coming just for the free food. Also, we must be aware that fundimentalists might target                 us.
            3) Gannd and Don did a radio show two years ago for Phyllis Golden and she is talking about doing                 another one.
        c. Gannd will research the papers and their policies on religious listings by the next meeting.

9. Discussion Topics From the Last Meeting.
        a. Sacred Shaft - due to the Arizona ant problem, we will not build a shaft, but continue using the cauldron            with all food stuffs sacrificed getting scattered in the desert after the ritual.
        b. Donation Box - see 7.c.
        c. We will continue to accept voluntary donations at our usual meetings.
        d. Membership Renewals at Samhain - all Grove memberships ($15) will be renewed at Samhain. Kirk will            check our By-laws concerning our renewal of our individual ADF memberships.
