Three Druids In A Boat

Three Druids in a Boat

Once a year, the Grove likes to dispose of all the silver offered to the well by throwing it into a local lake. This removes the silver from human use. The first time we did it, though, we had quite a learning curve! Gannd, Kirk and Gordon drove down to the lake one Friday afternoon and rented a canoe.

Gannd was still in his work clothes of dress pants and shirt, and they looked pretty green. Apparently, the people who rented them the canoe took bets to see how long it would be before our intrepid Druids overturned and dunked themselves! Once out on the lake, they were buffeted by jet ski after jet ski. However, they managed to keep afloat and spread the silver in the lake.

When Gannd told artist Deb Dedon about the trip and about the song (below) that first appeared at Desert Magic Festival, she offered to produce a 'heroic' drawing of the event. She has now completed the depiction and has gifted it to the Grove! It shows Kirk at the tiller, Gordon in front and Gannd in the middle. Click on the drawing to see a larger version.

The song was written by Steve Sampson to commemorate that trip where Gannd, Kirk and Gordon braved the waves in October of 2003 to commit the Grove's silver to the deep.

Singing the SongThis bardic enterprise was performed by (from Left to Right), Jack Richards (on the guitar), Julian Greene, Arlene Davis, Steve Sampson, Linda Costello and Meredith McDonald at the Desert Magic Festival in May, 2003.

The song below should be sung to the tune of the "Gilligan's Island" theme song:

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip,
That started from this desert place
Aboard a tiny ship.

The Druid was a mightly sailin' man,
The Liturgist brave and sure.
Three Druids, they set sail that day
For a silver-tossing tour.
A silver-tossing tour.

The jet skis started getting rough,
The tiny boat was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The Druids would be lost.
The Druids would be lost.

The boat reached land on the shore of that
Well-charted desert swamp
With Gordon,
The Kirk, too.
And Gannd in suit..........and tie,
Some old stuff and silver, too,
The gifting for to hide.
The gifting for to hide.

So this is the tale of our Druids three
On the lake for a long, long time.
They had to made the best of things -
It was an uphill climb.
It was an uphill climb.

The Senior Druid and his Warrior, too
Did do their very best
To give the silver to the Kindreds three
At ADF's behest.
At ADF's behest.

No Christ, no cross, no Christian stuff;
Not a single rosary,
They were like Oisin, son of Finn
Heroic as can be.
Heroic as can be.

So join us here each Samhain-tide,
You're sure to get a smile,
From our three, silly Druid boys,
And their boating style.
And their boating style.
