Desert Magic Festival 2009 Review
We thought that the most appropriate place to begin our review of this year’s festival was with our thoughts about hospitality. As always the hospitality extended to our family by the members of Sonoran Sunrise Grove, was exceptional. From the organizing of our trip to the festival, lodging, participating in the festival and our return trip home we could not have been treated with greater empathy and hospitality.
Unfortunately, we have very little constructive criticism, if any, regarding this year’s event. It truly exceeded our hopes and past experiences with the festival. As presenters we were greeted with a helping hand for supplies, set up and other needs for workshops and rituals from many members of the Grove.
As festival attendees we felt that the workshop line up was exceptional. It is rare for us to attend a festival and be excited about attending workshops. This festival also had a great capacity for spiritual interaction in the form of wonderful rituals.
The site as always was spectacular and having the pool and hottub in good working order this year was great.
The area of greatest improvement overall from previous years had to be the meal plan. Julie was exceptionally accommodating and the endless hours of work that Grove members must have put into the meal plan effort really paid off. The food was wonderful, healthy and there was lots of it.
During the evening bonfires we had a fabulous time getting to know both the members of the Grove, other ADF folks and folks from other Neopagan traditions. We found it very nice to have other Neopagan leaders present at the festival and as workshop presenters. It gave us opportunities to find common ground and network, which can do nothing but build a stronger future for ADF and Neopaganism as a whole.
We would like to especially thank Nora Ford, Senior Druid of Sonoran Sunrise Grove for the exceptional effort in organizational oversight of this event and the countless hours this must have taken. We would like to thank Nora and Dennis Ford for their endless hospitality and the general picking us up, putting up with all of our unusual needs and welcoming us to their home. We would also like to thank all of the members of Sonoran Sunrise for allowing us this wonderful opportunity to attend and present at Desert Magic 2009.
